He had his early primary education in his hometown before moving to Wudil of Craft School (1970-1972) and from there to Kaduna Polytechnic where he did his National and Higher National Diploma. From there he went on to Middlesex Polytechnic (1982-1983) and Loughborough University of Technology (one thousand nine hundred and eighty-three -1985) in the UK where he got his Masters Degree in Water Engineering. He was an active student leader during his school days and was an elected official of the Kano State Students Association. Professional career He started work in 1975 with WRECA (Kano State Water Resources and Engineering Construction Agency).
He joined partisan politics in the aborted Third Republic where he contested elections to the House of Representatives. He became the Deputy Speaker. He belonged to the Peoples Front faction of the SDP Led by General Shehu Yar'adua. During the 1995 Constitutional Conference he was elected to be one of the representatives from Kano, at that time he belonged to the Peoples Democratic Movement led by Yar'adua.

He joined the PDP in 1998 under the platform of Peoples Democratic Movement in Kano led by Mallam Musa Gwadabe, Senator Hamisu Musa and Alh. Abdullahi Aliyu Sumaila. The group were able to have sympathisers from the PSP group such as Alh. Datti Wudilawa and ANC such as Mallam Abba Dabo who all supported his candidature. He therefore had a victory in the primary elections. Kwankwaso was elected as the Executive Governor of the northern Nigerian state of Kano between 1999 and 2003, under the flag of the People's Democratic Party (PDP).
He lost re-election to Malam Ibrahim Shekarau whom he removed from the highest civil service position of permanent secretary to a Lecturer in a higher institution (College of Arts and Science, Kano).
His tenure as the Governor of Kano State was very eventful because there were several groups opposed to his high handed governorship, and his attempt at supporting president Obasanjo who hails from a different tribal group. His party the PDP also became split between his supporters and those who opposed him. Kwankwasos' 2003 bid to serve for a second term was unsuccessful.
Despite his achievements in the areas of Education, Rural Electrification and Health. He was able to establish a State University of Technology at Wudil, he introduced Free Feeding for Primary School Students in the State which led the United Nations to recognise his effort in that direction. His electrification programme in the rural areas recorded a great success.

He built a number of bridges in the rural areas and introduce free natal programme for pregnant mothers. He was then appointed as the Minister of Defence in President Olusegun Obasanjo's cabinet in 2003. In 2007, he was appointed as the Presidential Special Envoy to Somalia and Darfur by the Obasanjo administration after losing the bid from his party to contest the 2007 general governorship election.
He continued to use his influence at the Federal level to undermine his opponents especially the Kano State Government.
He resigned his ministerial position to contest the election in 2007 but he lost because he had been indicted by a Government White Paper. His running mate in the elections Alh.Ahmed Garba Bichi contested the elections with Alh. Jibril Gwale as a running mate.
He was re-elected as Kano state governor on 27 April 2011 and sworn in on 29 May 2011 for a second term in office.

Who will Rescue Nigerians From Unemployment, Poverty And Disaster in 2019

Dr. Abdul Jhalil Tafawa Balewa is one of those growing band of men who instils hope and inspires us amidst the growing hopelessness. The story of AbdulJalil is that of struggle and sacrifice. Coming from two major ethnicities (Fulani and Yoruba) in Nigeria and having left shores of Nigeria at an early age, he maintained a “bridgedom” of sorts for all ethnicities in Nigeria.  Right from his early years, to his sojourn in the United States in search of knowledge, he understands that greatness is never a given, it must be earned. The belief in one Nigeria fired him to aim higher and higher. He bagged his MBBS at a very young age, converted to MD in the United States with specialization in Infectious Diseases and went further to obtain a Master’s degree in Enzymology and a PhD in Nuclear Chemistry. In reaffirming the greatness deeply embedded in him, Dr. Abdul Jhalil demonstrated that he could lead at early stages of his life. He was at various stages of his formative ages a leader. He was the class captain in his primary school and at university level, he was at the forefront of struggles. This prepared him for more difficult tasks ahead. It wasn’t surprising when he boldly expressed his desire to lead this country.

Atiku Abubakar (GCON) (born 25 November 1946) is a Nigerian politician, businessman and philanthropist, who served as the second elected Vice-President of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007, on the platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), with President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Abubakar worked in the Nigeria Customs Service for twenty years, rising to become the Deputy Director, as the second highest position in the Service was then known. He retired in April 1989 and took up full-time business and politics. He ran for the office of governor in the Gongola State (now Adamawa and Taraba States) in 1991, and for the Presidency in 1993, placing third after MKO Abiola and Babagana Kingibe in the Social Democratic Party (SDP) primaries.
In 1998 he was elected Governor of Adamawa State. While still Governor-Elect he was selected by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate Olusegun Obasanjo as his running mate. The duo went on to win elections in February 1999, and Abubakar was sworn-in as Nigeria's second democratically elected vice president on 29 May 1999.
Abubakar's second term as Vice President was marked by a stormy relationship with President Obasanjo. His bid to succeed Obasanjo did not receive the latter's support, and it took a judgment of the Supreme Court to allow Abubakar contest after he was initially disqualified by the Independent National Electoral Commission on the grounds that he had been indicted for financial misconduct by an investigating panel set up at Obasanjo's behest. The Supreme Court ordered the electoral commission to restore Abubakar's name onto the presidential ballot. Abubakar ran on the platform of the Action Congress, having quit the PDP on account of his issues with President Obasanjo. Atiku lost the election, placing third after Umaru Yar'Adua and Muhammadu Buhari of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).

Atiku is a co-founder of Intels, an oil servicing business with extensive operations in Nigeria and abroad. He is also the founder of Adama Beverages Limited, and the American University of Nigeria (AUN), both in Yola.
